Let’s get the obvious out of the way: this is 208 pages of cover reproductions which you could view on comic.org or comicbookdb.com if you searched by cover artist. That’s not the point.
This book presents Bolland’s work for DC through Bolland’s eyes, as he comments on each and every piece. Some are bare facts while others give a full story to the process and creation of the cover. Lots of great breakdowns and pencils featured to give the process its due.
A deluxe book in every sense of the word: thick pages, oversized, excellent production values. Read it through or pick it up and take in a few pages at a time.
You can’t really review something like this: fans of Bolland’s art should pick up Cover Story: The DC Comics Art Of Brian Bolland, not only to enjoy the beautiful artwork but to get a peek behind the wizard’s curtain.
